Why should I become a GameSwitch Member?

It's free to join, so why not?!

We here at GameSwitch are sick of trading in our used games for next to nothing (you know who you are, you big mean gaming stores!). So instead we have an internal Point system - not cash - to make sure you receive full market value for your games. You don’t have to find a trading partner to "swap" games with: you trade your games for Points, and then use the Points to request other games from other members!

You don’t need to join to browse the games, but you will need to if you want to get trading!

What are GameSwitch Points and how do you calculate them?

GameSwitch Points are the internal currency of GameSwitch. They are used to assign a trading value to any game on our network. You earn Points by sending your games to other members, and then use those Points to receive other games from other members.

GameSwitch Point values are calculated by a super secret formula - more secret than the Colonel’s secret recipe! It takes into consideration the age, genre, platform, format, popularity etc of the game. The more popular the game the more Points it's worth. Point values range from 150 to 1000, with the most popular and newest titles near the 1000 Point range. Game points are updated daily.

When you join GameSwitch we will gift you 100 Points to get you on your way!

What are Trade Tokens?

A Trade Token is a $3.50 fee that you pay to GameSwitch to process a trade through our network. For every game that you receive from another member, you are debited 1 Trade Token. Trade Tokens are valued at $3.50 a piece, so essentially, you are getting a game for $3.50! Game on!

What if the receiver doesn't mark the game has received even though they received it?

Our Guarantee includes the person sending the game. So If someone does not mark a game as received within a week of it being sent, you have the option of contacting us to release your points. This has never actually happened though as the person requesting the game has nothing to gain from it (they risk having their account disabled). This is because when a person requests a game the points are deducted immediately from their account. They are then held by GameSwitch until the game is received.

Can I save money on GameSwitch?

YES! GameSwitch gives full market value to your games and allows you to trade them for other games of similar value. This is a great deal compared to what you get at any retail trade-in! Where else can you get a game for $3.50?

Is GameSwitch a safe way to trade?

We run our trading system using internal Points, not cash, so there's less incentive for anyone to do anything unsafe.
Traders are rated by the buyer after the trade is complete. As a buyer you are able to see these ratings and then choose who you wish to trade with (if more than one trader is available). User ratings are very important. If the user has only one star (poor) trade with caution.

If the trade turns pear shaped (e.g. the game never turns up) we will refund the Trade Token and Points. GameSwitch continuously monitors trading activity on the site to ensure that our guarantee policy is met and that neither side of the trade is abusing our trading system.

Does GameSwitch list hardware?

Currently GameSwitch only deals in games. We do not offer the service to trade any hardware at this stage. This includes game specific controllers (eg Guitar Hero Guitars). Please note: Games listed on GameSwitch are software only - If you request these games you are only requesting the software.

A game I want to offer / request is not listed on GameSwitch....why?

It could be for a number of reasons. GameSwitch uses an American database for its listings. Sometimes games are known under different names in different countries. A quick Google search normally clarifies that. If you have a game you wish to offer or request that’s not listed please contact us and we will attempt to put it on for you.

Why are some of the game box art pictures wrong or from different platforms?

The database that links our game box art (cover) images is not platform specific (e.g. there might be an Xbox game cover in the PS3 section). Please note the cover picture in the listings may differ from the actual game.

I have requested a game and the traders not responding - What do I do?

GameSwitch works on 7 day cycles. If you request a game from a trader they have 7 days to respond. If after 5 days they do not respond, they are sent a reminder email that they only have 2 days left or they will recieve bad feedback. Once 7 days is up you can cancel the trade and are fully refunded your Trade Token and Points. You also have the ability to leave the trader bad feedback.
The same 7 day cycle applies for If a trade has been initiated or marked as shipped. If after 7 days they have not sent the game you may cancel the trade and recieve a full refund of Token and points.

Can I trade a Dreamcast, PS1, Nintendo 64 or Atari 2600 games?

We don’t currently have these platforms on GameSwitch, if there is a demand we will look at adding a retro gaming section. Contact us with any suggestions on platforms you would like added.

Can I trade between Australia and New Zealand?

Currently traders can only trade within their country.
